Electromagnetic (Mag) Flowmeter
A full-bore meter with no moving parts and no pressure drop. The standard for raw water, sewage and chemical slurries, provided the liquid is conductive.
Best for
Water, wastewater, conductive liquids
High-precision flow metering engineered for conductive liquids, corrosive slurries, steam, compressed air, fuel oil and natural gas, selected for the fluid, the pipe and the accuracy you need.
Flow is where measurement meets money. It is how water is billed, how chemicals are dosed, how energy is accounted for and how product changes hands between companies.
No single flowmeter suits every job. The right principle depends on the fluid, its conductivity and viscosity, line size, available straight run, pressure loss you can accept and whether you need volume or true mass.

10 options. We recommend the one that suits your application, not the one that happens to be in stock.
A full-bore meter with no moving parts and no pressure drop. The standard for raw water, sewage and chemical slurries, provided the liquid is conductive.
Best for
Water, wastewater, conductive liquids
Clamp-on transducers measure from outside the pipe, so there is no pipe cutting and no process shutdown. Inline versions serve large water mains and custody applications.
Best for
Water, liquids, large pipes
Counts the vortices shed behind a bluff body. Robust at high temperature, which makes it the usual choice for steam, compressed air and gas totalisation.
Best for
Steam, water, air, gases
Measures mass flow directly, together with density and temperature, independent of fluid properties. The reference for custody transfer, batching and blending.
Best for
Liquids and gases, mass flow
Infers gas mass flow from heat carried away by the stream. Very sensitive at low velocities, ideal for compressed air audits and leak detection.
Best for
Air, gas, compressed air
Orifice plates, Venturi tubes and averaging pitot tubes paired with a DP transmitter. Universally understood, standardised and suitable for almost any fluid.
Best for
Water, steam, gas, air
A float rises in a tapered tube to give a direct visual reading with no power. Simple and economical for purge, sampling and dosing lines.
Best for
Low-flow measurement
A rotor spins in proportion to velocity, giving high accuracy and repeatability on clean, low-viscosity fluids.
Best for
Clean liquids and gases
Traps and counts fixed volumes of fluid. Accuracy improves with viscosity, and no straight pipe run is needed.
Best for
Oil, fuel, viscous liquids
An ultrasonic or radar level sensor over a flume or weir converts level into flow for gravity-fed, partially filled channels.
Best for
Sewage, channels, drains

Liquid, gas or steam? Conductive? Clean or carrying solids? Viscosity and conductivity rule several principles in or out.
Billing water needs volume. Custody transfer, batching and gas accounting usually need true mass.
Line size, straight run available, allowable pressure loss and whether the line can be shut down for installation.
Required uncertainty, turndown, and how the reading reaches your PLC, SCADA or billing system.
An electromagnetic (mag) flowmeter is the standard choice for water, wastewater and other conductive liquids: it is full-bore, has no moving parts and causes no pressure drop. If the pipe cannot be cut, a clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter measures from outside the pipe.
A vortex flowmeter is the usual choice for steam because it tolerates high temperature and has no moving parts. Differential pressure flowmeters with an orifice plate or Venturi are a well-established alternative.
Volumetric flow is the volume passing per unit time, for example m³/h. Mass flow is the mass passing per unit time, for example kg/h, and does not change with temperature or pressure. Coriolis flowmeters measure mass flow of liquids and gases directly; thermal mass flowmeters measure gas mass flow.
Yes. Clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters are mounted on the outside of the pipe, so there is no pipe cutting, no contact with the fluid and no process shutdown.
Positive displacement flowmeters work well on oil, fuel and viscous liquids, and their accuracy improves with viscosity. Coriolis mass flowmeters are used where direct mass measurement or custody transfer accuracy is required.
